Robert “Bob” Hughes was born and raised in England. He immigrated to the United States in 1987 and 5 years later settled in New Bedford. As a hobby, he joined the Fall River Camera Club where he won numerous awards. This, with the support of his family, encouraged him to pursue photography as a profession rather than a hobby. He started with weddings and proceeded to event and commercial photography.

Bob went on to photograph for several local magazines as well as The Standard Times. Since 2007, you can find Bob at most events featured in the popular Out and About section of The Standard Times website and newspaper. He has worked on several locally produced movies including Bruxa, Busted Balls, Whaling City and Cheating Death. In 2007, he won the Grand-Prize in the First Night International Photo Contest and his award winning fireworks photo was featured on New Bedford’s First Night 2008 buttons.

He can be found at the annual Working Waterfront Festival with scenic photos of New Bedford’s waterfront, local lighthouses, and various New England sites. While Bob uses digital photography, he adheres to old school standards. This means he uses in camera techniques that can be used with a film camera. Bob is married and the father of four sons ranging in age from 25 to 14.
